This morning, the Rosewood San Miguel de Allende Resort and Artesana Rosewood Residences hosted the Zarzuela Brunch as a part of the 2011 Festival San Miguel Cantador (San Miguel Singer’s Festival). The Zarzuela is a Spanish lyric-dramatic genre that incorporates songs, spoken words, as well as dance. It generally offers both opera and more popular songs. The performance by various groups in the Rosewood central courtyard on a perfect San Miguel day was an inviting and interactive experience for hotel guests, Artesana homeowners, and San Miguel locals.
The Festival San Miguel Cantador’s main attraction will be a major concert with some of the greatest opera singers, Fernando de la Mora, Lila Downs, and Armando Manzanero on Friday, December 9th at the Rosewood Resort, and culminates with a free concert in the “jardin principal” (principal garden in the center of town) on Sunday, December 11th.

Day of the Dead 2011 is in full swing at the Artesana Rosewood Residences and the Rosewood San Miguel de Allende Resort, with the “ofrendas,” or private altars honoring the deceased, already prepared and ready for guests and visitors to enjoy and appreciate. The altars honor friends, loved ones, and well known Mexican heroes with sugar skulls, breads, the favorite foods and beverages of those who have passed on.
The holiday, very popular in Mexico, takes place on November 1st and 2nd, with many actually visiting the graves of loved ones with all of the altar items as gifts. It is a holiday that celebrates friends and family members who are no longer with us and is a time of family gatherings and lots of laughs.
The altars throughout San Miguel de Allende are quite spectacular, and the transformation of the public square into an altar for those known and unknown is a special occasion for all who live here.

Celebrity Chef and talk show host Rachel Ray visited San Miguel de Allende recently, spending time at the Rosewood San Miguel de Allende® and taping Hey, You Think You Can Cook?!, which is scheduled to air on October 28 and will feature Rosewood Executive Chef Carlos Hannon as a guest judge. Locally, Atencion! was on hand to capture a visit to LUNA Tapas Bar.
